Borrowed from the 1939 British song made famous by Vera Lynn, We’ll Meet Again invokes the bittersweet optimism of parting: the expectation of reunion and the promise of return after absence. Through three days of lectures, screenings, and performances, the event marked our farewell to the building that housed Kunsthalle Athena for five years and became inseparable from its identity.

Kunsthalle Athena was founded in an unrestored neoclassical house in Metaxourgeio, Athens, within a neighborhood shaped by overlapping communities, movement, hardship, and constant change. In this environment—where desire and despair, culture and survival coexisted—the institution grew, alongside the many people who passed through its spaces.

Over time, artists, writers, friends, and collaborators left their marks on the building, adding new traces to those already embedded in its worn surfaces. We chose to preserve these scars, allowing the building itself to become part of our history.

We’ll Meet Again brought people together for a final collective passage through separation and displacement. Through talks spanning love and architecture, debt and global politics, women and the cosmos, the internet and poetry—alongside performances, sonic interventions, and music—the event honored the life of the building and carried it forward with memory, care, and resilience.
