Kunsthalle Athena played a pioneering role in the contemporary art scene of Athens. A vibrant mix of exhibitions, talks, conferences, presentations, screenings and workshops forged new opportunities for social interaction and cultural exchange. It also helped establish the city as a destination of international interest. Without zero founding from the state, Kunstalle Athena’s co-operative and imaginative character devised ingenious new ways to bridge scarce resources.
The programme burnished the creative contribution of local and global communities and brought fresh talents to the public gaze. The experience of being part of a curatorial team offered not only a deeper understanding of the local and international art scene, but provided an opportunity to hone my existing skills, learn from experienced specialists and work on multi-dimensional exhibition projects. During a unique period of socio-political chaos of Greece, Kunsthalle Athena’s mission was a cultural phoenix from the flames.
