Balkan…Projects

Mamula ResidencyThrough my curatorial role at Balkan…Projects, I have advised private partners on how to translate place, heritage, and brand identity into meaningful contemporary cultural programming—developing projects that are both intellectually rigorous and deeply experiential. A key example of this consultancy and private enrichment work was our 2023 collaboration with Mamula Island Hotel, in Montenegro’s Boka Bay: an artist residency, an evolving in-progress exhibition, and a summer-long series of educational and performative events set within a 19th-century Austro-Hungarian fort reimagined as a luxury hotel. Working closely with the partner team, I shaped a holistic framework that foregrounded Balkan contemporary culture and fostered exchange between regional and international audiences, inviting Irena Haiduk, Milica Janković, Angelo Plessas, and Ana Prvački to respond to the island’s layered histories through performances, public moments, and sensorial encounters—activating nature, architecture, ritual, hospitality, sound, and craft, and encouraging visitors to listen, smell, touch, savour, contemplate, and meditate.
